BMW Alpina: Performance and Luxury

Alpina is an automotive manufacturing company based in Buchloe, Germany. Founded by Burkard Bovensiepen in 1965 as a BMW tuning business, the company set up shop in an outbuilding of the original Alpina typewriter factory. Throughout the 60’s and 70’s, Alpina built a strong reputation for tuning carburetors, revising cylinder heads, and being highly competitive in racing. Alpina partnered with BMW to produce their own unique line of cars, and has been recognized as a car manufacturer (as opposed to a tuning company) since 1983. Compared to cars from BMW’s in-house motorsport-rooted subsidiary, BMW M, Alpina’s vehicles have more emphasis on luxury, higher torque, and have automatic transmissions instead of manual or semi-automatic transmissions. The Alpina B7, features a bi-turbo V8 with 500 horsepower and 500 ft-lb or torque.
